Vst Plugin Spl Vitalizer Mk2 T
Overview
So I recently fell in love with the UAD2 SPL Vitalizer MK2-T plugin. Across the mix buss this thing is amazing. Thats basically what im using for the most. I have a RETRO 2A3 and and have used various other hardware and software EQ's and they just don't seem to do what this does for me with the stereo expansion and how u can tame the low end. The VST plugins are the most common additions most professionals rely on when it comes to bringing new features and a richer sound to their tracks. SPL Vitalizer MK2-T is one such add-on and it is. The SPL Vitalizer MK2-T is my go-to plugin when I want to add a little magic to almost any sound. Whether it’s pianos, guitars, or vocals, I can always count on the Vitalizer to make a modest Read More. With the growth of computer based audio systems, the need for the SPL sound in plugin form has also grown.
Patented Sound Quality
By applying psychoacoustic and audiometric principles, the Vitalizer achieves a verifiable enhancement in sonic quality. The Vitalizer processes only the original signal and generates no artifacts.
Patented filtering techniques highlight the richness of the audio signal in all its detail, while the interactive parameters make it possible to alter the sound in a musical and effective way. This unique combination of precise filtering and intuitive usability enable you to instantly make any music production more stimulating and natural-sounding: music and speech are made clearly distinguishable and comprehensible, loudness is made more intense, and the whole soundscape becomes noticeably wider.
One of the Vitalizer’s main features is the unmasking of overlapping sounds. The way it works is, in principle, opposite to the way compression formats (MP3, etc.) do: instead of deleting allegedly unnecessary information, it enhances it. In order to do that, the Vitalizer takes into account the perception of a frequency in relation to its volume. By shifting louder frequencies slightly in time, softer and formerly overlapping sounds are “unmasked” and made audible. The audible effect of unmasking could be described in general terms as more clarity and depth in a mix. Lows sound more powerful and better defined, mids more focused and differentiated, and highs more vivid and brilliant. The included mono version can be used on individual channels to emphasize the sound character of instruments or vocals. The clarity and definition achieved guarantee an adequately perceptible presence in the mix.
Another characteristic of the Vitalizer’s sound optimization process is the adaptation of the sound spectrum to the non-linear sensitivity of human hearing. This phenomenon was audiometrically proved in the 1930’s, thanks to the equal loudness contours (also known as the Fletcher-Munson curves after their discoverers). According to these curves, the human ear is most sensitive to mid frequencies, i.e. to the frequency range of speech. As a result, frequencies below 200 Hz and above 6000 Hz need reinforcement in order to achieve a well-balanced auditory impression – frequencies between 6 kHz and approximately 11 kHz are perceived as being 5 dB softer, for example. The Vitalizer uses the equal-loudness contours to balance the frequency spectrum according to human hearing, which in turn improves loudness. As a result, individual elements of a mix can sound more present without an actual increase in level. At the same time, the sum signal also benefits from the Vitalizer processing, since it can achieve the same loudness with less sound pressure level.
The Analog Code
During listening tests of this technology, a hardware developer remarked that SPL had “cracked the Analog Code!” and in the process, coined the name of SPL’s software product line.
SPL hardware products can be found in the world’s most renowned facilities, and have become a staple for audio professionals ranging from home studio owners to top mastering engineers. With the growth of computer based audio systems, the need for the SPL sound in plugin form has also grown. With Analog Code plugins, that coveted SPL sound is now available right inside your DAW.
Vst Plugin Spl Vitalizer Mk2 T Tube
So I recently fell in love with the UAD2 SPL Vitalizer MK2-T plugin. Across the mix buss this thing is amazing. Thats basically what im using for the m. Lack of money calls for creative solutions at times – I went to SPL-USA and borrowed a new Vitalizer MK2-t (thanks Marty!) and we did the mastering, coming out of the computer into the Vitalizer, then into a Kultube compressor barely moving the VU needle with some gentle Buzz SOC compression inserted in the sidechain.
Highlights
- Patented technology for automatic sound optimizing.
- Process single tracks, sub groups or master buss signals.
- Increases perceived loudness.

Based on the famed SPL Vitalizer® line of stereo processors, the MK2-T is a plug-in emulation of the Tube Vitalizer Model 9739 unit and SPL's latest in their Analog Code plug-in series. The Vitalizer is a stereo program equalizer that uses psychoacoustic technology to provide unique results as compared to other equalizers. (Vitalizer ® is trademarked and the principles are patented under U.S. 7,352,872).
The plug-in, available in stereo or mono versions and in AU, VST, RTAS, TDM and Venue formats, is like the hardware unit--an additive processor processing is always added to and never subtracted from the signal.
Essentially a three-frequency band system, the MK2-T starts with a bass processor that includes an adjustable compressor for controlling the concomitant (electrical) level jump associated with any bass boost. This section is coupled to a broad, mid-range shelving equalizer--a single process control knob controls both together. Free bass engine vst. The usual stridency of increasing mid-range frequencies is dampened by an amplitude-correlated phase shift.
The third equalizer band is an old-school LC (coil and capacitor) style shelving equalizer with special harmonic coloration. Finally, the MK2-T finishes off with a stereo enhancement section that widens the stereo image for increasing the perceived soundstage.

I found many uses for the MK2-T plug-in during my recent album mix projects. On bass guitar, I am able to tailor its sound to be rounder and deeper or tighter and stiffer with the Bass control. This bass processing is also useful for extracting low frequency information from guitar and keyboard tracks without using massive bass EQ boosting. On the stereo mix bus, the LC equalizer is so smooth you can crank on a tremendous amount yet not make the mix sound harsh or tinny--it'll become more open and airy sounding. Adding some of the Stereo Expander widens out any mix revealing ambience both recorded and artificially added. This is a splendid effect!
SPL's Vitalizer MK2-T plug-in is downloadable at: www.spl.info/software/download/ there is a 14-day demo available. With this single plug-in, I can do processing unlike any of the other 600 plug-ins in my collection! It is a must have!
